Overview

Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, is the highest mountain in Africa, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level. It is a dormant stratovolcano with three distinct volcanic cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kibo is the highest and most famous, where the iconic snow-capped Uhuru Peak is located.

Kilimanjaro’s ecosystem is incredibly diverse, featuring five distinct climate zones: cultivated farmlands, rainforest, heath, alpine desert, and an arctic summit. The mountain is a popular destination for trekkers, attracting adventurers from around the world aiming to reach the summit without needing technical climbing skills.

The mountain holds cultural significance to the local Chagga people and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, symbolizing both natural beauty and human endurance. Its glaciers are rapidly receding due to climate change, making it a significant subject of scientific study.
